'Sword of Two Kings'

Fergus responded, "I don't understand.  I accept that you have this ability.  I have now seen things that give me that belief, that such power exists.  But I do not see the price you asked me to accept."

Meroth laughed. "Of course you don't, because what you do not know is that the passage which must be closed is the secret passage which Darnians have used for centuries to descend from their mountain fortress.  You do not know that each time they have traveled through it they have moved over a hundred miles, thinking to themselves to have gone but a few.  This one must close, and when it does, the Darnians who now are engaged in battle will have no escape.  The same steep cliffs that have protected you and your people will become their prison."  These words struck Fergus like a hammer slamming into his chest.  Even Colley and Morj, who had no knowledge of the Darnian's secret passageway, realized that the decision confronting Fergus was overwhelming.  Was he sure enough of himself to go to the aid of his country men, knowing that to do so meant leaving them with no escape should the day be lost?

"You decide if the risk is too great," Meroth ordered. "King of Darnia."

Fergus paused only a moment. "Help me Meroth, help me reach the battle in time to make a difference."
